Periodontal Care
When dental plaque is not properly removed, it hardens into tartar, leading to gum inflammation. This buildup of plaque and tartar can cause gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease, which may progress to periodontitis if left untreated.
Periodontitis results in deeper gum pockets and bone loss, which can eventually lead to loose teeth or tooth loss. Regular dental cleanings and diligent home care are essential in preventing the onset of gingivitis and maintaining overall gum health.
At Hamburg Family Dental, we conduct a thorough periodontal evaluation to assess the health of your gums. If signs of periodontal disease are present, we offer treatments such as deep cleanings (scaling and root planing) to remove tartar and bacteria from deep within the gum pockets, allowing the gums to heal. Although bone loss from periodontitis cannot be reversed, with proper home care and more frequent periodontal maintenance visits, we can effectively prevent the progression of gum disease and protect your oral health.
